Sustainable development goals

  • SDG 3 - Good health and well-being
  • SDG 5 - Gender equality
  • SDG 10 - Reduced inequalities
  • SDG 17 - Partnerships for the goals

Funding source

Funding by donation/ most work undertaken by volunteers

Project origin

I became aware of CwB through a colleague.

Evidence of need

They were keen to have somebody with public health expertise to help as most volunteers were engaged through enjoyment of cricket.

Project areas

Policy; monitoring and evaluation; needs assessment; community engagement

Project activities

We have developed ideas around ways of engaging communities in which CwB works in order to prioritise issues important to them – this is soon to be trialled in one of the participating countries. Likewise, different ways of evaluating programmes have been identified and are soon to be trialled.

Changes

More evidence-based health messaging and education; prioritisation of issues based on local needs and wants; better and more appropriate evaluation of programmes.

Next steps

Needs assessment and changes in monitoring and evaluation will be trialled soon.

Challenges

No challenges yet, but early days.

Mitigating challenges

Knowing others with expertise in the area would help – having people to bat ideas around with. Explicit support and encouragement from NHS organisations for their staff to engage with work taking place outwith the country would be helpful.
E.g. Using networks within Public Health, we were able to supply colleagues in Indonesia with expertise and educational resources – we are a very useful resource!
